Air Quality Warning & Alternative Training Options

December 5th, 2019

Today, and for the remainder of this week, the air quality across the Hunter and parts of our Northern NSW region is forecast to remain at VERY POOR to HAZARDOUS due to a high level of smoke and air particles from the many bush fires across the state.

Northern NSW Football therefore strongly recommends that in affected areas all football activities that are due to take place today are postponed or cancelled for the health and safety of all participants. Organisers should then continue to monitor conditions throughout the rest of the week and refer to the information provided below regarding Monitoring of Current Conditions.

For information about alternative training options refer to the following article provided by Football NSW; The Impact of Poor Air Quality and High Temperatures on the Football Player.

Where a Club or Zone decides to proceed with football activities, parents should ultimately make decisions on their child’s participation and if they believe it’s not safe for their child then they should act regardless of any policy or communication.

Clubs and Zones in other areas should monitor air quality levels in their local area and carefully consider whether football activities should proceed.

Air quality is very specific to each environment and can change quickly. Please note that the measurements on the link below can only be a guide and clubs need to act based on local conditions which may, in reality, be far better or worse than where the measurements are taken.

People from sensitive groups such as those with asthma, heart or lung disease, children and older adults should consider avoiding all outdoor activities.
