Clubs encouraged to register for Flood Relief Fund

March 4th, 2022

Northern NSW Football clubs affected by the devastating floods in northern NSW have been encouraged to register for the Commonwealth and State governments’ Flood Relief Fund.

The new support package for flood-affected communities was released yesterday to help people recover and rebuild once the water recedes.

The initial $434.7 million of funding will be provided to help communities clean up and remove damage and debris as well as support flood-affected local government areas.

Grants of up to $50,000 are available for not-for-profit organisations. Clubs can register their interest now via Service NSW.

Seventeen LGAs have been declared as disaster areas and are eligible for support through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Fourteen of these LGAs are in northern NSW including Armidale, Ballina, Bellingen, Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Glen Innes Severn, Kempsey, Kyogle, Lismore, Nambucca, Port Macquarie/Hastings, Tenterfield and Tweed.

The red circle shows the location of Lismore Workers FC’s clubhouse, which is totally submerged.

Northern NSW Football have also created a Flood Recovery Hub to assist affected clubs.

The hub includes information regarding financial relief, fundraising support, mental health support, community initiatives, NNSWF community football contact information and a survey to help assess flood damage at clubs.

NNSWF Chair Helene O’Neill said the northern NSW football community were right behind those affected.

“We know the devastation is well beyond damaged infrastructure and lost equipment. Some members of the football community have lost everything,” O’Neill said.

“We want to assure everyone affected in the Football Far North Coast and North Coast Football regions that you are a vital member of our football family. And NNSWF will be there to tangibly assist clubs to restore their facilities and get back on the pitch when the time is right.

“Stay strong. Our thoughts are with you during this most difficult time.”

If your club needs assistance, you can reach out to Northern NSW Football through our community football team via Ross Hicks (02 4941 7200/rhicks@northernnswfootball.com.au).
