Johnson Cup returns for 2022

April 7th, 2022

The 2022 Johnson Cup will be hosted in Tamworth on Saturday as the pre-season tournament kicks off the Northern Inland winter football season.

The Johnson Cup honours the late Jan and Kevin Johnson in recognition of the couple’s outstanding commitment to the administration and development of football in the Tamworth district for almost 40 years.

The annual pre-season tournament returned last year following a year off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All proceeds from the day go towards supporting local charities throughout the Northern Inland community.

Eleven men’s teams from nine clubs will compete for the Kevin Johnson Cup.

Pool A features Narrabri FC, Moore Creek FC, 2021 champions Oxley Vale Attunga and North Companions 1, while Tamworth FC, Hillvue Rovers, North Companions 2 and Moore Creek Mountain Goats make up pool B. Quirindi, South United and Kootingal & District were drawn in pool C.

Three women’s team will compete for the Jan Johnson Cup including Kootingal & District FC, 2021 champions Tamworth FC and a combined team from North Companions FC and Oxley Vale Attunga FC.

Pool matches will start at 9am, with all matches to be played at the Gipps Street Sporting Complex, Tamworth.

The Kevin Johnson Cup final will be played at 5pm, with the Jan Johnson Cup final to follow at 6.30pm.
