Les Withers named Northern Inland’s Newcastle Permanent Community Referee of the Year

October 10th, 2021

Northern NSW Football is pleased to announce Les Withers as Northern Inland’s Newcastle Permanent Referee of the Year for 2021.

Les works tirelessly to arrange match officials in the region and help mentor the group in addition to refereeing himself where needed.

Anyone who knows Les knows he does not like too much fanfare but without him games would not happen in the Northern Inland region as the referees would not survive without him.

“Match officials have arguably the hardest job in sport,” NNSWF Community Football Manager Ross Hicks said.

“Les has shown that he takes the match official role seriously and his dedication, passion and commitment contribute considerably to the positive football experience enjoyed by the players and spectators of matches he officiates.”

Newcastle Permanent Tamworth Branch Manager Julie Callander congratulated Les on becoming the recipient of the Northern Inland Newcastle Permanent Referee of the Year Award.

“Our community football referees take on an important role of keeping players safe and creating a great experience for players and spectators each and every week,” Callander said.

“Newcastle Permanent would like to congratulate Les for his generosity and valued contribution to the game.”
