Football Federation Australia (FFA) and State Federations, today welcomed the release of the National Principles for Sport and Recreation by the Federal Government and the National Cabinet.
Following today’s meeting of the National Cabinet, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced 15 principles for the resumption of sport and recreation activities.
FFA Chief Executive James Johnson said these will now be used in conjunction with FFA’s COVID-19 Guidelines for Football in determining a date for the possible resumption of football.
“FFA welcomes the release today of the National Principles for Sport, and thanks the Prime Minister and the National Cabinet for clearly laying out the pathway to a return for both professional and grassroots sport,” he said.
“We will, in conjunction with our own Guidelines, use the Principles and The AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment to guide our ongoing plans for the return of the Hyundai A-League and community football.
“We continue to work collaboratively with the Hyundai A-League Clubs and Member Federations, and remain focused on being a key partner for Federal and State and Territory governments as we determine how and when football will resume, taking into account the restrictions in place in each jurisdiction.
“The health and wellbeing of all players, officials, staff and volunteers is of primary importance, and we will continue to encourage every member of the Australian football family to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions at all times. ”
FFA is proud to work with the Australian Government, and encourages all football participants to download and use the COVIDSafe app, which is available from the App store or Google Play.
Northern NSW Footballl CEO David Eland adds each State Federation will continue to liaise with the appropriate State Government agencies including the Office of Sport and Health Authorities to refine these guidelines to be suitable on a state-by-state basis.
“Northern NSW Football and Football NSW have already commenced working together with our Member Zones and Club delegates to develop state-wide guidelines and recommendations to assist guide clubs and participants to get back on the park.
“This is fantastic news for community football and we look forward to working towards the day football may resume,” said Eland.
