NNSWF deliver presentation to help clubs attract volunteers

February 17th, 2022

Northern NSW Football delivered an online volunteer retention and recruitment presentation on Monday night aimed at helping clubs attract and keep more volunteers.

The seminar was led by NNSWF Club Development Officer Phillip Andrews with a number of clubs making the most of the opportunity.

The presentation contained several ideas and strategies that Andrews has seen successfully implemented in various clubs during his time as a club development officer.

“Volunteers are difficult to attract and continued engagement with them is another task that club committees undertake,” Andrews said.

“Clubs that have less trouble recruiting and retaining volunteers employ a range of strategies that often start with building the governance and culture of the club as a way of creating an environment where contributing to the club becomes the normal.

“If clubs can take one strategy or idea from the presentation that can be implemented leading into the 2022 season as a way of reaching out to prospective volunteers then that can give them a strong base to build from.”

The goal was to use the delivery of the presentation as a starting point for clubs to take action towards attracting more volunteers.

While volunteers are thin on the ground for a number of clubs, an issue many clubs would like to rectify, clubs were encouraged to consider creating a longer-term whole of club strategic plan to make their club more attractive to prospective volunteers by implementing some of the strategies presented.
