Northern Inland Football in Tamworth has secured over $145,000 in funding from the NSW Government to improve their local football facilities.
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said that the Asian Cup Legacy Fund will improve facilities at a local level in NSW’s highest participated sport.
“Regional NSW deserves investment in infrastructure and we are determined to grow regional sport from grassroots right through to elite level,” said Mr Anderson.
The Association will see installation of lights and an extension of irrigation at the Gipps Street Sporting fields, improving the grounds and increasing playing time.
President of Northern Inland Football Tim Coates said it is fantastic to see this investment that will allow more people to participate in our sport for training purposes at night and also allow evening competitions across many of the fields.
The booming popularity of football is already bringing communities together, and now players at all levels again benefit from the success of the 2015 Asian Cup.
“In 2016, Tamworth football has 2,214 registered players with the vast majority playing at Gipps Street Sporting fields. The precinct is close to capacity and growing approximately 7% year on year:”
“Through the allocation of surplus funding from the elite level Asian Cup in 2015 to community football, it ensures that we continue to see Australia succeeding on the international stage, while getting kids more active at the same time.
“Players, referees, coaches and administrators of all ages and abilities are set to benefit from the fund which will magnify the social, health, educational and cultural benefits our game brings to society”, said Mr Anderson.
