Telstra SAP State Championship Saturdays Fixtures Cancelled

With monitoring the weather conditions and working closely with Coffs Harbour City Council, Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) have come to the decision to cancel Saturday’s fixtures of the Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys in Coffs Harbour.

A further assessment of the fields will be made tomorrow morning to determine if the Championships will be able to go ahead for the remainder of the long weekend.

An amended draw to suit the reduced time frame will be made and uploaded this afternoon here.

More than 220 of the most talented young, male footballers in Northern NSW will converge on Coffs Harbour this long weekend to compete in the annual Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys.

The Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys is contested by the Member Zones who support Northern NSW Football’s (NNSWF) strategic direction through the implementation of Licensed Skill Acquisition Programs (SAP’s). Squads representing the NNSWF Newcastle SAP and a composite NNSWF Select SAP will also participate in the 11 and 12 Years divisions.

The composition of the Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys has been amended to acknowledge the vital contribution of Licensed SAP’s to the development of players within NNSWF’s Talented Player Pathway. Skill development is clearly the primary focus of the Skill Acquisition Phase, however, players also have to develop their understanding of the game in order to apply these skills in an appropriate context.

Teams across Northern NSW will include, Macquarie Football, Hunter Valley Football, Northern Inland Football, Football Mid North Coast, North Coast Football, Emerging Jets, NNSW Newcastle SAP, and NNSW Select SAP.

The Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys is the first of NNSWF’s major tournaments to be conducted at Coffs Harbour International Stadium this year.

NNSWF will also host the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls in July and the Telstra SAP State Championships for Girls and the FFA National Youth Championships for Boys in September.

“Northern NSW Football is proud to host the Telstra SAP State Championships for Boys, which will showcase some of the finest young male footballers from around Northern NSW,” NNSWF Chief Executive Officer, David Eland said.

“The Championships provide the participants with an opportunity to represent their respective Zones and Skill Acquisition Programs and benchmark their development against their peers in a competitive environment.

“The Championships are a critical component of NNSWF’s endorsed Talented Player Pathway. The Technical Panel, headed by State Technical Director, Michael Browne will be identifying and monitoring players who have the potential to represent NNSWF at future National Youth Championships and to transition to the Emerging Jets.” Eland concluded.

The first matches commence at 8.30am on Saturday, June 10, with both 11 and 12 Years Boys matches played simultaneously on two separate fields – Field 1 hosting the 11 Years Boys and Field 2 hosting the 12 Years Boys.

The presentation ceremony for the Championships will take place from 2 pm on Monday 12th June.

The official draw can be found here.

Squads are as follows:
