Ten Community Coaching Courses Already Delivered in 2018

February 27th, 2018

Coach education has gotten off to a flying start in 2018 with 10 Community Coaching Courses already delivered throughout Northern NSW.

Last weekend saw Goalkeeping, Skill, Game & Senior Training coaching courses delivered across our regional zones in Football Mid North Coast (FMNC), North Coast Football (NCF) and Football Far North Coast (FFNC).

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) Coach Education Coordinator, Tom Oldaker travelled to the Far North Coast on the weekend delivering accredited courses to regional coaches in Lismore.

“The courses were really well received and we had coaches attend from not only Far North Coast but also from other Zones,” Oldaker said.

“The courses provide coaches with the tools to develop good coaching behaviours. These behaviours are essential to assist in the development of players.”

“Coaches can overlook the importance of starting practices quickly, engaging and challenging players. These simple behaviours ensure players not only develop as footballers but enjoy playing the game.”

Even the wet weather in Coffs Harbour and Lismore didn’t stop the courses from running.

“The weather was really bad throughout Saturday morning which prevented us from getting out on to the field,” Oldaker continued.

“Our approach to coach education needs to be flexible so the courses went ahead even with the poor weather conditions. We were still able to achieve the desired learning outcomes from the modified courses.”

In addition to the community coaching courses, NNSWF, along with the help of Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Community Coach Development Manager, Les Bee, have been conducting coach developer workshops throughout the State.

“The workshops, which have been held at our Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility and at the Southern Cross Football Centre in East Lismore are designed to develop our experienced coaches in becoming coach developers,” Oldaker said.

“The aim of the workshops is to improve the coach developers presentation, facilitation and feedback skills which will allow them to assist in the delivery of coach education in 2018.”

“The more coach developers we have throughout NNSWF means we can deliver more coaching courses than ever before,” Oldaker concluded.
